Massive chromitite

 

Ore deposit type: Magmatic in mafic-ultramafic rocks

Provenance: LG6 level, Bushveld Complex, South Africa

Description: : Cumulitic massive chromitite. The rock is composed of chromite (dark gray, with submetallic luster) in millimetric isodiametric crystals and orthopyroxene (light gray) in big anhedral crystals (a few mm). The sample is from the LG-6 chromitite level of the Rustenburg layered suite (Bushveld Complex, South Africa).
